Why Blog?
Well I once read something that struck a chord. We are always
reading to expand our knowledge on a wide breadth of topics, but more often
than not, when you come across something you already know a little about, its
infuriating to see how much someone managed to mangle it.
I happen to know a little about the Middle Ages. Not much,
mind you, but I wanted to write this blog to fix what I come across, and to
share in my own explorations and epiphanies as I come across them in this
journey towards understanding.
It’s funny. When you tell someone you’re interested in
Medieval Studies, you get one of three responses:
1.
A blank stare or the often accompanying, “What’s
that?”
2.
The assumption that I like Renaissance Fairs, or
Medieval Times
3.
Or a joke about Live Action Role Play (LARP)
For the record, I study the Middle Ages because Chaucer was
a comedic genius as well as a linguistic savant and the period was full of
honesty, and hilarity. I don’t have an(overwhelming) desire to take-up archery;
eat with my hands, or toss-on some chainmail.
I appreciate modern medicine too much to want to ever live in the Middle
Ages but if you want to learn a little more about what I love, I’ll be writing
this until I get bored or fix all those little mistakes I find.
In addition, I wanted to write this blog as a journal for
the incredible journey I am about to embark upon. It dawned on me a few months
ago that I should stop waiting for my life to start, that the clock was already
running. There’s so much I want to see, and to do in my life and I better get
to. I hope all of you will follow along with me in this next fantastic
adventure.
Cheers!
