Today, our intrepid young hero (boyfriend) and his plucky female companion (who is surprisingly lovely and capable) begin their journey to the promised land: New York.
The day began in the typical manner with a bleary rise with the sun, a quick wash, and the running of various errands. It was not a typical day however, and the duo quickly found themselves on something that might conceivably be called a quest.
Stalwartly migrating across the land along the main road connecting the distant east and west (see pic), they traveled many hours through the waving fields and depressingly flat landscape of the grasslands, notoriously dotted with the occasional gnarled trolls (see pic) and werwolves (those interstate drivers who deviate between 42 and 93 mph see pic). The trek was littered with easily provoked obstacles, some (notably) difficult to avoid (see pic).
Despite an anxious moment (a stop at the local McDonald's for midday sustenance), however, our two heroes came out of today's adventures mostly unharmed and hopeful, anxious for what tomorrow might bring.
Translation:
Stuart and I drove the first leg of our four part trek from Wyoming to New York today. It was 7 hours of Wyoming-Nebraska misery filled with scary midwesterners, construction, and grass. Despite the less than enchanting landscape, our day went quickly and painlessly since we had an excellent entertainment in the form of snacks, knitting, and Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophesies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman (Which I highly recommend reading, by the way). We stopped in Lincoln, Nebraska for the night and had an excellent dinner at one of the local breweries. We start bright and early tomorrow with St. Louis and Stuart's uncle as our next destination. Wish us luck!
